Cosmos Youths launched their 2026 cricket season in spectacular fashion, marking the organization’s 47th anniversary with a commanding win over NY Storm. This milestone match, the 1,337th in the club’s storied history, took place at Ferry Point Park and featured a dominant performance that underscored the team’s championship aspirations. A standout display from Govin Persaud, who appeared revitalized at the crease, spearheaded the chase after the Cosmos bowling attack effectively dismantled the opposition.

Clinical Bowling Performance Restricts NY Storm

Cosmos captain Alvin Gobin demonstrated sharp tactical awareness throughout the first innings. Despite a rapid start from NY Storm, who reached 30 runs within the first three overs, Gobin’s bowling rotations quickly stifled the scoring rate. Ahmad Dodson provided the critical breakthrough, taking three key wickets to destabilize the Storm top order. Gobin contributed directly to the collapse by dismissing his counterpart, K. Saini, with a skillfully delivered out-swinger.

The middle overs saw the pressure mount as Baveshwar Utam and Ziyaad Changah took control. Changah made an immediate impact, bowling K. Das with his very first delivery. Utam was exceptionally disciplined, finishing with a remarkably economical spell of 2 wickets for just 5 runs in 4 overs. Abid Ali’s medium-pace variations cleaned up the tail, resulting in NY Storm being bowled out for 105 within their 25-over limit.

Govin Persaud Powers Explosive Run Chase

The Cosmos reply faced an early setback when openers Deoraj Sewanan and Devin Persaud were dismissed with only 9 runs on the board. However, the early wickets did little to deter Govin Persaud. Displaying a more aggressive and confident approach than in previous seasons, Persaud took charge immediately, striking a massive six off his first ball. He proceeded to dominate the mid-wicket and mid-on boundaries, punishing the Storm bowlers with six maximums in a display of pure power hitting.

Persaud was expertly supported by Vitendra Koomar, who played a calculated and patient knock of 27. Their second-wicket partnership added 81 runs in just six overs, effectively taking the game away from the opposition. Although Koomar fell with the score at 90, Persaud reached his half-century with a definitive pull shot over mid-wicket. His innings ensured Cosmos Kings secured a comfortable six-wicket win, reaching the target in just 11.5 overs.

Match Summary and Season Outlook

This emphatic victory provides Cosmos Kings with significant momentum as they continue their anniversary season. The combination of a disciplined bowling unit and Persaud’s explosive form suggests the team is well-prepared for the challenges ahead. Supporters can look forward to the team’s next fixture against Next Gen XI, scheduled for 8:30 am this Sunday at Roy Wilkins Park.
